Kids and adults, beginners and experienced boxers stepped through the ropes at Rocky Road Boxing Club on 25 October, as the Dubai gym combined its latest Open Ring with its birthday celebration.
Rocky Road Boxing Club opened its doors in Al Quoz on Saturday, 25 October for the latest edition of Open Ring, the gym's recurring in-house boxing event, held this time alongside the club's birthday celebration.
The card brought together kids and adult boxers, from first-timers to more experienced fighters, in a series of matched bouts. Opponents were paired by age, weight and experience, with the aim of producing fair, competitive contests. Entry was free for spectators, and the day also featured partners and prizes as part of the birthday celebrations.
Federation in attendance
The UAE Boxing Federation, a partner of the Open Ring series, shared the day with its followers in a 20-image post titled "A day at Open Ring | Rocky Road". The photos show bouts contested in full amateur kit, with headguards and red and blue corners, under the gym's lights, and a big screen introducing each boxer by corner before they stepped in.
More than a competition
Rocky Road describes Open Ring as a milestone rather than a competition in the usual sense: a chance for members to test what they have been working on in a safe and encouraging environment, in front of the people who train beside them every week, backed by their coaches and training partners.
The series runs across both Rocky Road locations, in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The club's previous edition in June was billed as its fifth Open Ring, making the October card at least the sixth in the series.
It has been a busy week at the Al Quoz gym. In the days before the event, Rocky Road also welcomed light heavyweight star Dmitry Bivol, who trained at the club.
